{"product_id":"spekulatius-gewurzzubereitung","title":"Speculoos spice preparation","description":"Good to Know: There are different types of speculaas, but the most common is spiced speculaas, which gets its typical flavor from the spices cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon. This pastry, or cookie, was also very popular in the post-war period. Here is a recipe suggestion for making speculaas: 500g flour, 2 eggs, 125g ground almonds, 250g sugar, 250g butter, 5g speculaas spice, 1 grated orange zest, a pinch of salt, 5g ammonium carbonate dissolved in 1 tbsp milk. Quickly knead all the ingredients together on a pastry board and let it rest in a cool place for 12 hours. Knead the dough again thoroughly, press it into a wooden mold or roll it out thinly on a floured board and cut out shapes. Place the shapes on well-greased baking sheets, brush them with milk or egg, and optionally sprinkle with grated almonds. Bake at 200°C for approximately 12-15 minutes. And now enjoy! Taste: Speculoos is a typical Christmas cookie in Austria and Germany. In contrast, it is eaten year-round in the Netherlands and Belgium.
